However, at the license dialog for GenoPro, uncheck the box to Launch GenoPro after installation is complete. Once the Visual C++ Runtime finishes installing, go back and repeat steps 1-5.

CrossOver will actually download it and install it, so it might appear dead for quite a while (probably not more than 5 minutes unless you're on dial-up, though).ġ3. The installation of Visual C++ Runtime will probably appear to hang for 1 to 5 minutes, depending on your system speed. Under the bar for bottle selection, select the bottle that you originally installed GenoPro into.ġ2. Select Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 Redistributable.ġ1. Scroll down to Runtime Support Components.ġ0. If you click on this bar, you can change the bottle name, which really won't matter except for aesthetic reasons.ĥ. I felt that for someone that hasn't used CrossOver, it might be easier to let the system do all the bottle creation, etc. ** NOTE: If you're experienced with CrossOver, you'll notice that I actually perform some steps out of order. Anyway, maybe this will help someone here as well. I thought I'd post it here because the system continuously failed until I realized MFC42 wasn't available. I have tried and I can’t bear to leave genograms behind so until and unless some other genealogy program starts offering a similar interface, I’ll stick with GenoPro.īiggest Pro: Genograms are absolutely the best way to view and manage a tree.I posted this entry to GenoPro's support forum to help users there understand that there is an alternative to a full-blown Windows installation. We’ll see…Īt the end of the day, you will either fall in love with genograms or you will find another program you like better. I also haven’t seen this problem since moving to 2011 though. The problem though is that it didn’t give you enough info to determine where the error occurred and the report generation would just crash.

I used to also see errors after importing a gedcom from somewhere with data GenoPro didn’t like. I haven’t run across this yet since moving to Windows 7, getting more memory and upgrading from GenoPro 2007 to 2011. The one significant problem that I have run into is running out of memory when generating a gedcom or reports on a very large tree. The generated web reports could be much better (and more modern) but you can always export a gedcom and use other programs for that. It does take a little practice figuring out the best way to split up very large trees so that they arrange nicely but once you figure out the tricks, it isn’t that hard. I absolutely LOVE the genogram approach and the visibility it gives you into your family tree and all the relationships.

I have been using GenoPro off and on for at least 10 years.
